A giant of Formula one, Colin Chapman was the founder, Designer, and key man behind Team Lotus F1 Successes. Born in 1928 in Surrey, in the fifties, he founded Lotus Cars and in 1954, Team Lotus was form initially to race sports racing cars then entering Formula One in 1958. His first championship victory came in the USA GP of 1961 with a Lotus 21 drivern by Innes Ireland triumphing. But was the Lotus 25 in the hands of Jim Clark that really put Team Lotus on the map. With Champan’s knowledge of aeronautical engineering and his ability to push the design and engineering envelope his cars were always at the forefront of technology. Powered by a 1500CC engine this small nimble machine proved to be an excellent all-round racing car and introduced to F1 the fully stressed monocoque. His next landmark design was the superb lotus 49. Powered by the innovative Cosworth DFV, this car developed aerofoil wings and took corporate sponsorship to Formula 1. Clark also enjoyed success in this car, as did his one-time rival Graham Hill, with Hill winning a world championship in the car. Completing this set is the iconic Lotus 72.
