B-17F Memphis Belle :
The Boeing B-17 became synonymous with the heavily armed strategic bombers in World War 2. The Boeing B-17F was the first Flying Fortress to be mass-produced. The most famous aircraft from this series was a B-17F, which was delivered on 15 July 1942 and commissioned with the 324th Bomber Squadron in England. The crew named it Memphis Belle after the girlfriend of pilot Lt. Robert K. Morgan. Her fame resulted from the fact that she officially became the first bomber of the US Army Air Force to survive 25 missions in Europe and became the star of a Hollywood propaganda film. After this mission, the Memphis Belle was ordered with her crew to the USA. Later, it was bought by the city of Memphis and erected in the open air as a monument. A total of 12,677 B-17 machines were manufactured.
