Berliet 356ch – Renault R360 – Le Centaure
CHROMED PARTS – RUBBER TYRES – COLOR INSTRUCTIONS SHEET
“Le Centaure” was presented as an exercise in style in “unique specimen” at the Paris Motor Show in 1978. The starting point is the already well-known Berliet TR 350 equipped with a 15-liter turbocharged V8 engine, with a power of 356 hp, in a tractor version for 4×2 semi-trailers. The vehicle was built on behalf of Marcel Benoit, “patron” of the Lyon company, now already in renault’s orbit: the goal is to present at the Paris Motor Show a vehicle that excites French transporters and above all that rises above the average of the industrial vehicles of the time, especially Swedish. The Le Centaure project bears the name of 2 people: Lucien Moge, stylist and decorator French, and Jean Pierre Augier, designer of the Lamberet bodywork: at the Atelier of the Lamberet body shop in Bonnet, in 15 days of non-stop work the vehicle takes shape. Subsequently, the Centaure will be marketed in 2 versions: the 356 hp and the younger brother of 305 hp, which differed in having a simpler characterization. With the unification of the Berliet – Renault ranges, in 1980 it receives on the grille the Renault logo along with the lozenge, and the Berliet TR 356 becomes Renault R 360. On the Italian market the versions with the raised roof will arrive only at the end of 1983 with the new R370 Turboleader.
