Junkers Ju87B Stuka
The Junkers Ju 87 Stuka was a two-seater dive bombing and ground attack. It first flew in 1935 and made its operational debut in 1936 with the “Condor Legion”, during the Spanish Civil War. The aircraft was easily recognizable by its inverted gull wing and fixed landing gear. The Stuka’s design included many innovations, including the automatic dive call system that allowed the pilot to control the aircraft even if he was clouded by acceleration. It became a symbol of the German “blitzkrieg” during the early stages of World War II by providing air support to the Wehrmacht’s Armored Divisions. It was used by the Luftwaffe during the Battle of Britain where it proved slow and vulnerable to attacks by modern and well-armed fighters such as hurricanes and spitfires.
